If you are not watch LOST Season 6 or didn't see last nights episode entitled, "Lighthouse" TURN BACK NOW.. ARRRGGGG !
Last night, I think we saw evidence that the universes will combine and converge. They aren't going to kill off Jack's son in universe LA _X any more than they are going to kill off Arron at age 3 or Jin and Sun's child, who are both still alive off island in the original universe. They aren't going to pick one in favor of another, but rather merge convenient traits from each of them as a part of the whole "the universe has a way of course correcting" rule.
This way EVERYONE that died will still be alive and thus were not wasted sacrifices to the island, in fact to make up for putting them in the middle of this they are being rewarded with better, more fulfilling lives, and many people will get to continue on as if they had not got pulled into this game of sorts by Jacob and M.I.L. (.....I know about Rose but I'm willing to bet she merges with island original Rose and has her cancer cured.)
This concludes this THEORY, but If you'd like my other thoughts feel free to continue reading:
We have no solid proof that Smokey is/was Christian Sheppard. A more palatable thought is that
Christian Sheppard has been claimed just like Claire, which is why his body disappeared. He likely did like Claire and got up and walked away and then was given a mission to lead Jack to the caves.
I also think being claimed, as Sayid is and Claire is, is much deeper than just being able to be manipulated. Claire is barely the same kind of person. She killed that guy without a second thought. Yes she heard him say he'd snap her neck..but the old claire would have at least felt remorse or shown hesitation. One could argue that having to survive has made her a killer, but I think the inner darkness helped... and if that's what happening Sayid, it's going to get messy. Remove his remorse and he's a machine.
One thing worth noting that I noticed is that Jack was shown by Jacob the same exact thing that Man In Locke showed Sawyer, except the atmospheres were different and seem to be following a theme.
Jacob showed Jack, in a LIGHT house and M.I.L. showed Sawyer in a DARK cave. Each wanted to show Sawyer and Jack that they were special, each was very vague and in-direct. Neither one of them seems particularly good or bad, so I wouldn't worry about who's following who at this point. Yes M.I.L. lied to Claire and Sawyer, but Jacob lied to Hurley and before that Ben. I think all the goings on are a part of a mutual rivalry and not the great war. I believe the war is between other entities, not M.I.L. and Jacob.
