When I was younger I LOVED Dragon Ball Z. I first introduced to it as Dragon Ball, in fact, it, along with Sailor Moon were my first introduction to anime. I believe what I saw was the second dub handled by SABAN. I remember it was on at about 5 or 6 am and I loved every minute of it. So much so that when the series looped, I'd grow frustrated but watch it all over again anyway. But this wasn't ordinary looping, it was the last episode ended with a cliffhanger and the show started all over looping. Little did my 12 year old self know there were hundreds of episodes I was missing out on...However before I got the chance to care they stopped looping the same 13 episodes of Dragonball and started looping the first 60 or so episodes of Dragon Ball Z. I never questioned why Goku was grown or why his son looked and sounded exactly like him, I was just happy the show was back...and again, I loved it so much I continued to watch the show even when it looped.Years later, Cartoon Network picked up the show, FUNIMATION purchased the rights, completed all 3 series and now they release the episodes on DVD almost as much as the syndication affilates would loop them back in the day. Currently the entire Dragon Ball Z series is on DVD, as is GT and The origional show is being released a second time to finish the sets that are currently discontinued. It was recently annouced that Dragon Ball Kai has been licensensed by FUNIMATION, so we can expect that on DVD. In case your curious Dragon Ball Kai is just the same DBZ fixed up and shortned to mirrior the origional manga more closely, it gets rid of filler and tosses in some gloss.
Personally I'm not interested in that. What I'm waiting for is the season three and four of the orginal Dragon Ball series so I can see what happens in both the Piccolo and Piccolo Jr saga's. I've seen the first half of both thanks to Netflix. But oddly Netflix doesn't have the second halves of either saga... It's frustrating. Currently, Amazon has the entire Dragon Ball Z series on sale for 45%, that's about 19 dollars a set.... Additionally they have the other series on sale to at lower discounts, but still discounts none the less.
Some fans still debate over which dub of the show was better citing that the saban dub had better voice acting but the funi dub did less of a hatchet job to the content. The one thing no one can argue about though is that the original "dragon dragon" theme song was far catchier than the one Funi created:
I'm loving this deal. I got hooked on it listening in to some of you guys talking about it in class. =P I kinda wish I had spoken up about my love for it then. I've been scrounging around trying to find stuff without breaking the bank and here it is...=D Appreciate the heads up.
ReplyDeleteYES, you should have. A lthough I don't know if we would of been mature enough to grasp the concept of a girl liking Dragon Ball Z at that point. lol
