Columbia Pictures is developing a remake of the cult 1985 film with none other than Samuel L. Jackson set to star as Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, a role played in the original by the late Julius Carry. Wu-Tang Clan's RZA is co-producing with John Davis and Kerry Gordy while Dallas Jackson (of Uncle P) will write the screenplay. Jackson admits that he's "a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho'Nuff into the 21st century." From Afro Samurai to the Shogun of Harlem!
I’m ignoring that part about Uncle P but, Samuel L. Jackson ?!? I’d actually go for Busta Rhymes when he was still skinny, but I’ll take Sam as it actually guarantees the movie some publicity, It's also got The RZA producing or something. For those of you that don’t know the story of “Bruce Leroy” and happen to have Netflix, the movie is available to be streamed right now, someone also posted the whole movie on youtube. So quit shuck’n and jive’n before I make you kiss my converse ! -Part of that is an actual quote from the movie. AND check out this fight scene !
I have to admit, I’m actually excited about this. The Last Dragon was a movie I always watched on Cinemax as a kid when absolutely nothing else was on. It was cheesy, it was extremely 80’s and all around awesome. I'm aware of the contradictions in that statement. Trust me you’ll be quoting this movie for the rest of your life and you will NEVER forget it. I just hope the remake doesn’t do something stupid like take itself seriously.
